On November 17, 1911, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was founded on the campus of Howard University. The founders of the fraternity decided on four cardinal principles by which all members of Omega should live by: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. Uplift is the fraternity’s commitment to have a positive influence on society and raise the condition of those less fortunate in the community. It is through the fraternity’s motto – “Friendship is essential to the soul” that the men of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity define the scope and depth of the diverse population of the people we serve.
The social action/community service projects the men of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Pi Omega Chapter have committed to address such social issues of homelessness, hunger, domestic violence, breast cancer, prostate cancer, poverty, addiction, and unemployment. These projects impact youth, elderly, disabled, and a cross-section of race and culture. These projects have a geographic sphere that encompasses the international, national, and local communities.
