Pi Omega pays tribute to Bro. Hubert "Bert" Simmons.

 

 

 

 

Brother Hubert “Bert” Simmons and member of Pi Omega was a legendary Negro League star baseball player. He was born May 19, 1924 in Tarboro, North Carolina. Known as an outstanding Pitcher and Outfielder, Brother Bert played for the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1950 and played in a four-team doubleheader at the Polo Grounds in New York which involved the Newark Eagles, New York Cubans, Homestead Grays and Baltimore Elite Giants.  Simmons earned All-Conference honors from 1946-49 at North Carolina AT&T State University, and was inducted into the University’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1978.

Pi Omega is a graduate chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  Pi Omega Chapter has been instrumental in sponsoring programs that foster achievement, scholarship, community action, and the search for talent. Over the years, it has contributed to various organizations, programs, and schools, which serve as valuable resources to the Baltimore community.  We continue to grow and serve the community in the name of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.
